Play Skyrim as a Minecraft player
You move, mine, build and fight with Minecraft, right inside Skyrim's world. Skyrim keeps its towns, quests and dragons. Join Cam and you share one Minecraft world: blocks, items, mobs and each other.
What you need
- Skyrim Special Edition or Anniversary Edition on Steam, fully updated. Not Skyrim VR or the old Legendary Edition.
- Minecraft: Java Edition on your Microsoft account. You don't need to install it. SkyCraft fetches it for you.
- A free Nexus Mods account, for three of the downloads. Make one here before you start.
- About 3 GB of spare memory (RAM). Minecraft runs quietly in the background next to Skyrim.
- Mouse and keyboard. Unplug or switch off any game controller while you play. It stops Skyrim's conversations from working.
Set it up
About 15 minutes, once. Close Skyrim first.
- Download the installer from the top of this page, open the zip and double-click Install-SkyCraft.
- If Windows says “Windows protected your PC”, click More info, then Run anyway.
- Click Yes when it asks to make changes. Skyrim lives in a protected folder, so it needs permission once.
- A window opens and does the work. It finds Skyrim, checks it's the right version and downloads what it can by itself.
- Three times, it'll open a Nexus Mods page and ask for your help (see below). After the third, it finishes on its own and says ALL DONE.
When a Nexus Mods page opens
- Log in, if you aren't already.
- On the Files tab, under Main files, click Manual download.
- If it asks, click Slow download (it's free) and let it finish.
- That's it. Leave the file in your Downloads folder and go back to the installer window. It spots the file and carries on.
The three are the Address Library (pick the one called All in one (Anniversary Edition)), Alternate Start, which skips Skyrim's opening cart ride, and the Unofficial Patch, which Alternate Start needs. Their authors only allow downloads from Nexus, so they can't be included here.
Play
- Start the game with the new SkyCraft (Skyrim + Minecraft) shortcut on your desktop. Don't use Steam's Play button: that starts plain Skyrim.
- First time only: a small Prism Launcher window asks you to sign in with the Microsoft account that owns Minecraft. Press Alt+Tab to find it, sign in, then go back to Skyrim. Minecraft downloads for a few minutes, and a message in the corner says when it's ready.
- First time only: on Skyrim's main menu, open Creations, then Load Order. Turn on the Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch, then Alternate Start, in that order. Say yes to the achievements warning.
- Choose New Game. You wake up in a cell with a statue of Mara. Walk up to it, press G and pick where your new life starts.
Join Cam
- Ask Cam for today's join link. It looks like
abc-def.e4mc.linkand changes every time. - In the game, press T and type
/join, a space, then the link. Press Enter. - Or, if Cam's Discord status says he's playing SkyCraft, just click Join on it.
You share Cam's Minecraft world: blocks, chests, mobs and each other. Your Skyrim stays your own, with your own quests and saves. Type /leave to go back to your own world.
Controls
Almost every key is Minecraft's. These ones still belong to Skyrim:
- G
- Use things in Skyrim: talk to people, open doors, loot, sit, pull levers
- Esc
- Skyrim's menu. Save your game here
- J M H
- Skyrim's journal, map and wait
- F9
- Skyrim quickload
And the Minecraft ones you know
- WASD Space
- Move and jump. Ctrl sprints, Shift crouches (and sneaks in Skyrim)
- Mouse buttons
- Left to hit and dig, right to place and use
- E 1–9
- Inventory and hotbar
- T /
- Chat and commands
- F5
- See yourself in third person
- O
- Minecraft's options menu
In a Skyrim conversation, click an answer with the mouse, or use W/S and Enter.
If something's not right
- Mouse or keys do nothing in a conversation: a controller is plugged in. Unplug it, quit Skyrim, run the installer again (it switches Skyrim back to keyboard mode) and reload.
- It's plain Skyrim, no Minecraft: you started from Steam. Use the desktop shortcut.
- “Needs Skyrim 1.7.104”: update Skyrim in Steam, then run the installer again.
- New Game starts on the cart: Alternate Start isn't on. Do the Creations → Load Order step above.
- Stuck on a black screen: press Win+R, type
taskkill /f /im SkyrimSE.exe, press Enter, then start again. - Skyrim's own inventory, magic and perk menus don't open while Minecraft is in charge, and Minecraft hits don't break Skyrim objects like spider webs.
- Camera mods (SmoothCam, Improved Camera, True Directional Movement) don't get along with SkyCraft. Turn them off.
- Want plain Skyrim back? Run Uninstall-SkyCraft from the same zip. Your saves stay.
- Still stuck? Send Cam a photo of the installer window, or the file
Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition\SKSE\SkyCraft.log.
SkyCraft is a fan-made mod by chasmlol. It isn't made by Mojang, Microsoft or Bethesda, and you need to own both games.
